Red Wine
Nebbiolo D'Alba: is the nobel grape of Piemonte in north western Italy, here in Alba the wine is made in a soft fruitful style with beautiful notes of Rose petals and tobacco, a great introduction to the bigger and more powerful wines of Barbaresco and Barolo.
Dolcetto: is primarily grow in the northwestern Piemonte. This grape is picked early, a few weeks before Barbera and a month before Nebbiolo (Barolo & Barbaresco). Dolcetto produces soft, round, fruity wines and has a glorious deep beetroot in color.
Barbera: is Italy’s answer to the famous French Merlot because it produces a good every day wine, good fruit and moderate tannins. Deep ruby in color, Barbera has more backbone than Dolcetto and is more approachable than the Nebbiolo based wines Which typically need more time in the bottle.
Barbaresco: is made from Nebbiolo, but grown to the northeast of Alba in the Langhe hills of Piemonte. It shares the same notoriety and quality as a Barolo, but its style is slightly less aggressive, gentler and easier to grasp- we can classify Barbaresco as a feminine Barolo.
Barolo: is also made from Nebbiolo, the great grape of Northern Italy, grown in the Langhe Hills southwest of the truffle town of Alba in Piemonte. This is considered to be the King of Italian wines.
Valpolicella: Veneto is known for Amarone, made from Corvina, Rondinella & Molinara Varietals. These grapes must be dried on straw mats after harvested to create three styles of wine: Normale, Superiore, Recioto.
Chianti Classico: There are seven zones that make up Chianti: (Classico Rufina-top2), Colli Fiorentini, Senesi, Arentini, Pisane, and Montalbano. The Classico zone is central and is the most ancient region of production and it extends from just south of Florence to just north of Siena- Symbolized by the black cockerel (Gallo Nero) on its bottle neck. Chianti Riserva must be aged for a minimum of two years in wood.
Brunello Di Montalcino: This clone of the Sangiovese is grown in Montalcino, a hilltop town of Tuscany south of Siena and is the only grape varietal permitted in this rare and expensive Tuscan wine. Italian law states it must spend two years in barrels and must be at least 4 years old upon release (Riserva – 5 years). Brunello is rich, opulent and velvety offering dense mulberry and black currants.
Rosso Di Montalcino: alongside its Brunello a second label Rosso di Montalcino. The creation of this DOC in 1984 has had very positive effects for the area. Rosso di Montalcino is an attractively colored dark ruby wine with the mauve edges which show its relative youth. The nose is simpler and more direct than that of the more complex Brunello. A hint of underlying oak adds depth to the typical aroma of violets. The palate is dry, with the slight astringent which is proper to the variety. Structure, fruit and length are exemplary and the finish has an excellent breadth of flavor.
Super Tuscans: Wines containing Tuscan varietals, non-Italian varietals alone and as part of blends. In the early 1970ís many Tuscan producers decided that they had had enough of the restrictions and that if they could not produce the wines they wanted within the DOC laws, then they would go outside them. As a result, a wave of wines began to surface that could only be labeled as table wine-subsequently to be known as the super Tuscans because they are great wines from Tuscany.

Shiraz: Australians & South Africans are definitely giving the French and the Americans a competition by producing world class wines using French Varietals. Shiraz produced down under can stand up to many French Cabernets and Pinot Noirs. It is sturdy like a Cab & perfumed and wild like a Pinot. Shiraz offers generous fruit (raspberry and plum,), good tannins and acidity.
